Note to self: if you’re going to insist on posting makeup pictures, take them in good lighting i.e. the morning.

A few days ago I posted my Classic Christmas Party look with golden eyes and a bright red lip, and today sees the landing of another option, this time playing up the eyes and down the lips.

Nine times out of ten i’ll go for a smoky eye over a bold lip, just because it’s a bit more fun to apply and there’s a lot of freedom with it. Occasionally I’ll sit down with a 15 pan palette and work to create something Picasso would be proud of, but sometimes, and in this case, I want to use as little as possible and have the work done for me.

For base I used the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation which I’m currently using a sample of in my search for perfection and concealed using the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. I set my concealer with the Hourglass Ambient Light Powder in Diffused Light like I always do. Then I filled in my brows with MAC Omega Eyeshadow.

For my smoky eye I scribbled a fair amount of the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Crayon in Amber Haze onto my lid up to the crease and along my lower lashline – channeling the Olsen twins obv. I blended that out with a clean MAC 217 brush to create a sultry look. You could leave it there and go but I added a little bit of Burberry Pale Barley eyeshadow onto the mobile lid for extra dimension and scribbled Topshop Kohl Pencil in Saddle along my upper lashline. I then applied lashings of Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara which is my current fave.

For cheeks I used NARS Laguna Bronzer as a sculpting and warming product (because even in party season i’m too lazy to contour) and MAC Soft and Gentle along the high points of my would-be cheek bones. I completed the look with Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in Adrienne.

Would you wear this? Or are you more of a bold lip lady?

The party season is well and truly upon us and out come the sequin dresses and most sparkly shoes. One of my favourite thing about this time of year is that anything goes; you can wear¬†a glittery number out to the shops and nobody will judge. You can pop on a red lip without questions of who you’ve put in the extra effort for and you can pull out the most out there pieces and rock them at the office party. Now as an unemployed student I do not have a Christmas party, and so I chose to wear this look on a day out shopping with my friend (hence it looking slightly worn in, I didn’t have time to take pictures pre any wind/rain/scarf in face situations and so this is the real deal. I am so glam.

What we’re dealing with here is the super simple go to Christmas party look, with the golden eyes and a pillar box pout. To create my take I started with the Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Foundation, because I figured for a party you’d want a fuller coverage and something with little to no flashback, I then smothered on a generous helping of the Urban Decay Naked Concealer and set my creasy (not greasy) under eye work using the Hourglass Ambient Light Powder in Diffused Light. For a pick me up I added the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer for shape and warmth and was unusually heavy handed with my application of MAC Soft and Gentle Mineralise Skin Finish. After all, it is Christmas. I filled in my brows with a teeny weeny bit of MAC Omega Eyeshadow. For my eyes I used the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette and begun with White Chocolate all over the lid up to the crease before blending in Milk Chocolate through the outer part of the socket. I then packed on a fair bit of Creme Brulee onto the lid to make me look like a golden goddess before applying Max Factor’s False Lash Effect Mascara. For lips I used MAC Ruby Woo lipstick.

august favourites

I don’t know how I’ve managed to not go on and on and on and on and on about this, but August saw me taking a trip to the city of loooove. As well as holding that pretty great title, Paris also offered me great pharmacies and a number of Sephora’s. I went hard on my bank balance and picked up everything I could ever want, but because this is absolutely not a haul post, I’ve narrowed it down the the absolute best of the bunch. Allow me to introduce to you my August Favourites…

From the Skincare Stash comes a moisturiser which is the bees knees, or the creme de la creme, if you will. When someone says Bioderma, you immediately think of their Micellar Water, however Bioderma as a brand expands wayyyy past water and on Lisa Eldridge’s recommendation, I picked up their Hydrabio Riche. If Lisa loves it, so will everybody else and this lotion applies lightly but works wonders on tight feeling dehydrated skin. I’ve shunned the rest of my cream collection.

Let’s just take a moment for Marc Jacobs. If you don’t like his designs, you will love his lippies and if you do like his designs, you’ll love his lippies too! The price of this badboy took my breath away slightly but it’s so damn pretty I couldn’t resist. I’ve got the New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Understudy and it glides on like a dream, offers up a perky pink shade and looks oh so Parisian chic when you pull out the bullet from your bag. That magnetic closure though.

I finally gave in after buying multiple expected dupes and bought the real By Terry Ombre Blackstar. I opted for Bronze Moon (a light bronze/brown with silvery wet look shimmer) as an easy go to shade and I already want every other shade in the collection. Every single day since purchase I’ve scribbled this creamy dream onto my lids, softened the edges and been done with my eyes. Sometimes dupes just don’t cut it. There’s more of that coming later this week ūüėČ

Lord have mercy my undereye bags have been beaten! My weapon of choice? Urban Decay Naked Concealer. Forget the Naked palettes, this product is an absolute show stopper, in fact it stops everything. Offering unreal amounts of coverage with a feathery lightweight feel, I’ve never looked so awake.

Finally for this months picks, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara has revolutionised mascara for me. It gives me long, thick, fluttery lashes which I can usually only achieve using faux hair and glue. I said it in my review post, but you really do need this mascara.

beauty news 1

Today I’m here with another brand new category and this time i’m cutting out the middle man and bringing the latest beauty news and releases from me, to you. Think of it like being spoon fed.
With more brands making their way overseas to the UK, summer collection releases and Autumn/Winter press images being released, it can be a little bit hard to keep up with whats new. Allow me to walk you through the latest in British beauty.

1. Possibly this years most exciting news, Makeup Forever has made its way across the waves and landed here in the UK. You can now pick up the range in Debenhams stores and online at Debenhams. Now, I haven’t had a look just yet, but I spy a late night shopping spree in the imminent future. It’s only fair that I make them feel welcome, right?

2. Eagle eyed me spotted the stunning promo shots of the Ellie Goulding X MAC collection and I might have done a wee squeal. Think neutral, wearable shades with shimmer and hi shine gloss. The collection is perfectly suited to Ms Goulding’s usual face and I predict a sell out. The collection is expected late December/early January.

3. When browsing the Monki website I spotted a new section, now, i’m not sure how hot off the press this is but it’s not something i’ve noticed before and i’m interested in trying out the collection. It seems a lot of high street fashion stores are attempting to follow the success of Topshop’s beauty line. Runner up? I suspect not, but it’s worth a try if anything floats your boat.

4. Maybelline have released their Master Sculpt Contour Palette this month and it’s already featuring on some of the best beauty blogs. The only real drugstore contender, this compact comes complete with both your highlight and contour shades. Me likey.

5. Last, but by no means least, Urban Decay have released the next edition of their reigning Naked Palette collection. Fourth in line, the Naked Smoky offers another palette for collectors to spend their money on as well as being a great option if you struggle to create a smoky eye with the 36 previous Naked shades. Erm…

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†Here’s something that might shock you, I only own one Urban Decay palette. It’s the Naked 2 and while I often daydream about having the full collection including both of the basics offerings, in reality Naked 2 is the one for me and I know i’d rarely¬†use the others on myself. (We all know I am lying and will probably go out and buy all of the others within the next week). Anyway, I digress. Naked 2 is the cool toned lovers dream, featuring 12 extremely pigmented, minimal fallout shades varying between matte and shimmer finishes.

I do love a Suspect (shimmery taupe) on an everyday level and Half Baked (gold) for something special but what I mostly pull out this palette for is to create a purple smokey eye. To do this I begin with the Maybelline 24hour Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold as a light creamy base and then pack on YDK (shimmer lilac) with the actually half decent accompanying brush. For day time I pop a little bit of Tease (matte lilac) through the crease and be done with it but for an evening look or a more dramatic day look (as pictured) I add the shade Busted (deep shimmer purple) to the outer corner and along the lash line. This is such a simple and effective way to create a purple smoky eye; something I think looks wonderful on green and brown eyes in particular but I’m sure other eyes could rock. As with any smoky eye, lots of mascara is essential and for the images I wore a lot of Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara which I still simply adore.

What do you think of this look? Is there another Naked palette I need?
