I’m not even sure brown lips can be considered a trend anymore, more a revolution. Either way, I’ve picked out my top four products to get you that nineties pout, with something to suit all styles. And yes, I do desperately want a Kylie Lip Kit, let’s not talk about it.

Probably the closest to a Kylie Jenner is the NYX Liquid Suede Liquid Lipstick in 07 Sandstorm. I’ve seen mixed reviews of the liquid suede formula however I’m a big fan and I’m looking to expand my collection before doing a full review on here. Until then, it’s an easy application, dries completely matte and fails to budge. This is a wearable brown shade which doesn’t look like you’ve smeared chocolate on your face, my favourite type.

For something more everyday office appropriate the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in 728 Honey Beige is a good shout. I love this paired with the Rimmel Cappuccino Lip Liner which just so happens to be next in the firing line. I’ll let the swatches do the talking…

Finally, MAC Whirl is one of those colour everyone’s got in either the pencil or lipstick formula, and is the epitome of nineties brown shades. This does drag the lips a little more than a liquid formula like the NYX however isn’t a shade I find to be particularly drying with occasional balm between applications, it does, however show flaky bits and so for best results use post scrub.

Do you wear brown lipstick?

march faves

Oh hey y’all! Long time no speak. I’m beginning to notice a pattern emerging in my posts, one which consists of constant apology for lack of content but to put it bluntly, I’m busy.

March was an exciting month for me, I finished and handed in my dissertation and had a quality night out with the girlies to celebrate, I gave up chocolate in aid of British Heart Foundation, I popped across to Paris, I interned with a great PR company which meant I lacked time to metaphorically put pen to paper and ponder my favourite subject of all… on with the show!

I’m still on a mission to find the perfect base and this month I returned to an old favourite Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, it’s a light coverage base with a nourishing formula and I like it best applied with a buffing brush over my new favourite Happy Light Luminous Primer. I’ve been testing out their new City Radiance base launch too, i’ll pop a post up asap.

I’ve had the common cold ft a very sore grumbly throat and chapped everything to match. Rose & Co’s Rose Petal Salve is a winner for hydrating and protecting flaky bits, like Vaseline but one million times better. I love it.

Once my lips had endured a little TLC I’ve been plastering on my CT Mini Lipstick Charm in Penelope Pink which I definitely need to purchase a full size of. It’s the perfect pink peach nude shade suitable for day and evening looks.

Finally I’ve fallen out of love with my lashes having had issues with some of my favourite mascaras starting to smudge. I picked up the Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara, a cult classic and an old favourite of mine which leaves me feeling nostalgic of the time’s I’d sweep this on after PE at school. It’s a tiny brush and the product does require work but a few coats and you’re left with long, thick, fluttery lashes that not even a falsie could improve.

What were your favourites things in the month of March?

september favouritesYou might think that it’s October 8th and I’m way too late for a September celebration, but late favourites are sort of my thing now. It seems at the end of every month I fall out with blogging (although this month I had to wait for internet installation) and then the beginning of the next one reignites my love, so you’ll just have to bear with me until I can maintain some consistency.

September was a funny old month for me, I moved in with the boyf and so a lot of days were spent in Ikea repeating outfits, having greasy hair and not a trace of makeup. However the end of the month saw me back at uni for my third and final year and I had a complete shock and threw on all of the makeup I own as well as picking up a few bits to make my face a little bit more seasonal. It’s no secret that I love autumn and you’ll be hearing me say that in the next months worth of posts (that pre-writing life) but for some reason I find it the most motivating, inspiring and it brings out my favourite shades for both beauty and fashion; here’s a breakdown of Septembers beauty bunch.

Moving stress and being reintroduced to the student life left my skin craving attention and so I picked up the Let The Good Times Roll mask from Lush. This contains popcorn and turns into a bitty paste when mixed with water. It is slightly too abrasive for my skin everyday but on SOS occasions and particularly flaky days this has been my skin savoir, and it smells fantastic.

Autumn see’s me transfer to the lipstick queen and so a subtle wash of Maybellines Colour Tattoo in Creamy Beige is all that i’ve swiped onto my eyes. For lips I’ve been going bold and pairing Rimmel Cappuccino Lip Liner with Nars Cruella and I adore the finished look. For something a little more 9am lecture appropriate I dusted off my old favourite MAC Freckletone Lipstick or have been squeezing on a shed load of the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01. I’ve also (yes I do only have one mouth) been loving the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm in Nude for off duty days – shoutout to Andie for picking it up for me.

For cheeks I’m still loving my NARS X Christopher Kane Blush in Silent Nude as a blusher sculpter all in one product, and I also picked up a few bits from H&M’s new beauty line; namely the Cream Blush in Cameo Brown. More on that shortly.

Are you tired after that? I am…

beauty news 1

Today I’m here with another brand new category and this time i’m cutting out the middle man and bringing the latest beauty news and releases from me, to you. Think of it like being spoon fed.
With more brands making their way overseas to the UK, summer collection releases and Autumn/Winter press images being released, it can be a little bit hard to keep up with whats new. Allow me to walk you through the latest in British beauty.

1. Possibly this years most exciting news, Makeup Forever has made its way across the waves and landed here in the UK. You can now pick up the range in Debenhams stores and online at Debenhams. Now, I haven’t had a look just yet, but I spy a late night shopping spree in the imminent future. It’s only fair that I make them feel welcome, right?

2. Eagle eyed me spotted the stunning promo shots of the Ellie Goulding X MAC collection and I might have done a wee squeal. Think neutral, wearable shades with shimmer and hi shine gloss. The collection is perfectly suited to Ms Goulding’s usual face and I predict a sell out. The collection is expected late December/early January.

3. When browsing the Monki website I spotted a new section, now, i’m not sure how hot off the press this is but it’s not something i’ve noticed before and i’m interested in trying out the collection. It seems a lot of high street fashion stores are attempting to follow the success of Topshop’s beauty line. Runner up? I suspect not, but it’s worth a try if anything floats your boat.

4. Maybelline have released their Master Sculpt Contour Palette this month and it’s already featuring on some of the best beauty blogs. The only real drugstore contender, this compact comes complete with both your highlight and contour shades. Me likey.

5. Last, but by no means least, Urban Decay have released the next edition of their reigning Naked Palette collection. Fourth in line, the Naked Smoky offers another palette for collectors to spend their money on as well as being a great option if you struggle to create a smoky eye with the 36 previous Naked shades. Erm…

Back to the beauty bandwagon, today I’m bringing you a face of the day and it’s all brown everythang which I’m embracing greatly since going dark with my hair.

Starting with the base (I’m all about that bass)  I’ve slapped on an unusual combo of MACs studio sculpt and mineralise moisture foundations simply because I’m low stock on studio sculpt so wanted to spread it out a little. I’m pleased with the result, the mineralise moisture foundation added a more liquid texture to the gel base, thinning it out and making it a little more dewy; something I’ll never decline.  I then popped on my current favourite concealer in the form of L’Oreal’s the concealer in the shade vanilla, this was dabbed under my eyes, down my nose and on any blemishes with my beloved real techniques miracle complexion sponge (post coming soon).

For brows I used Sleek’s brow kit in light and one of my eyebrows looks horrendously darker than the other in the picture but I can assure you that they match in real life. On my eyes I patted on Burberry’s pale barley and blended out with my sigma e16 blending brush. I lined the lashline with Essence Cosmetics kajal liner in teddy before smudging that out and adding lashings of Benefit’s Roller Lash .

I dusted NARS bronzing powder in Laguna accross the high points of my face and finished off the look with Maybelline’s colour sensational lipstick in honey beige.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your go to products for everyday?

I’ve shown you the bag and I’ve shown you the outfit, it’s only fair that my snaps from the catwalk show follow on.

I really enjoyed my first real catwalk experience and looked on from the second row (can SROW be a thing?) in envy of the perfectly structured models strutting along with such elegance. While there’s no way I’ll ever make it onto the runway, I can sure as hell buy all of the garms and let my self believe I look that damn good in them. Do they come in petite?

All of the models were made up by Maybelline, given slick hair by Toni and guy and dressed courtesy of the outnet.com. As for the trends? I’m keeping those secret until tomorrow’s post. *evil laugh*

Yes. Yes I did need another nude.

Whilst at London fashion weekend (will I ever stop talking about that?) I visited the Maybelline pop up and picked up this lovely new lippy. Maybelline were one of the events sponsors and so the brand had a reasonably sized room with the walls covered in makeup bits at discount prices. My friend and I chipped in on a 2 for £10 deal and each picked out a product and split the cost. While she went for a spring suited peach I opted for another nude, this time in the shade Honey Beige.

Honey Beige is from the nude collection by Maybelline, the same place as my daily favourite Tantalizing Taupe. The shades have a lovely buttery formula whilst still being reasonably long lasting and offering opacity. Honey Beige is a cool toned milky coffee shade, perfect for the current trend of nineties lips and a shade that would look good on a plethora of skintones.

I’m a big fan of cool toned browns at the moment and love the look of a whole face made up of cool brown shades. In the photo above I’m wearing the lipstick paired with my beloved Burberry sheer eyeshadow in pale barley and MAC’s blush in harmony. Who said brown was for autumn?

I was so excited to recieve my first ever goodie bag from the fashion and beauty industry, and boy was it a good one. Filled with beauty treats and sweet temptations this was far better than my childhood experiences of squashed birthday cake and a packet of crayons. The goodie bag in question is the one from this seasons London fashion weekend event which I was able to attend. The event is basically for people who want to go to London fashion week but aren’t Victoria Beckham so instead attend the consumers version, enjoy catwalks and pick up hot off the runway garments at discount prices.

The goodie bag itself was created by Scottish brand Pringle, in celebration of their 200th birthday and was adorned with knitted print and the signature fashion week logo. Inside, we were treated to this months edition of Hello fashion, something which I’ve only recently spotted on the shelves of my local shop and therefore something I’m guessing is quite new? Either way it’s a great read and has lovely pictures for style inspiration. We also received some food bits including a £25 hello fresh voucher, some strawberry snacks from urban fruit, a Baileys chocolate bar and a bag of Lavazza coffee. Beauty wise the bag came containing the Maybelline colossal volume express mascara in the cat eye edition (excited), Essie nail polish in ruffles and feathers, a Label M protein hair spray, some Garnier facial wipes and a packet of Kleenex tissues.

I feel like my birthday came early and I can’t wait to try out the beauty bits and consume the tasty snacks. Reviews will of course be up soon.

Pinch punch last of the month (Erm?). Today is the last day of February, meaning were almost three months into the year.. Crazy. This month has been busy for me, with this little slice growing and university getting pretty full on, I feel like I’ve barely blinked. But while I’ve been typing thousands of words and trying to maintain an ordinary life and some sort of balanced diet I have of course been wearing makeup and trying out new products, these are my pick of the pack.

1. Burberry sheer eyeshadow in Pale Barley – I reviewed this back in January and still am completely bessoted with it. Great for everyday, for a simple shade to work with liquid liner and for blending with darker shades for an evening smokey eye.

2. MAC Eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown – I’ve started using this again to fill in my eyebrows. It took me a while to make the swap from my trusty omega, but now that my hair is slightly darker I feel I can again pull off this once adored shade. Brow game strong.

3. MAC Blush in Harmony – I love this for a natural look for everyday. I feel as though this cool taupe shade suits me way more than the typical corals and pinks. It’s also fab for contouring.

4. Maybelline gel liner in Intense Black – this has made my life so much easier, gone are the days of wonky lines and smudged felt tips and here are the times of liner that I’m not ashamed of leaving the house in. I’m never one to speak too soon but this might hold holy grail status.

5. L’Oreal The Concealer in No.2 Vanilla – this is again something I’ve already spoken about. This concealer is full coverage while not being cakey or heavy like it’s competitors. I love this for both under eyes and on any blemishes or redness. It’s been compared to the NARS creamy radiant concealer, definitely one to try.

6. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Iberico – I’ve really taken a shine to this bright, bold lip option this month. It’s a straight up orange, verging on orange toned red but more like red toned orange. The impact of the shade makes lips appear bigger and fuller. Kylie who?

7. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara – I’m coming to the end of my sample size now after pretty much everyday use since picking it up with this months Elle magazine. As I mentioned in my review, this offers length, curl and hold and is great for both day and night.

8. Mitchum Advance Deodorant Stick – glamorous I know… This is brilliant though. It offers a fresh scent and all day sweat and odour control. I like the stick form aswell because it doesn’t apply wet or sticky like roll ons.

So that’s it for another month. What products do you like?

Now if there’s one place I have no willpower, it’s the aisles of Boots and Superdrug. Their special offers and consistent new releases keep me coming back for more and I cant help but leave with a heavy carrier bag and a much lighter purse.

I do think that the drugstore has some good competitors for high end gems and I love taking home a bag full of new goodies to try, especially when I haven’t broken the bank too much in the process.

On a recent trip I was reasonably restrained and only picked up five products, all of which were new to me and ones which I hadn’t tried before so trying them out was particularly exciting and I thought I’d share my thoughts with you…

First in my basket were the two Maybelline products which were on a two for £10 offer in Superdrug. I picked up the Colossal Go Extreme Mascara in Leather Black and the Colour Tattoo Leather Effect in Creamy Beige (ooh leather). I have tried a fair few of the original Colour Tattoo’s from Maybelline but the new leather effect interested me and the colour Creamy Beige was right up my street. I am more than impressed with it. It goes on smoothly just like the original formula and is easily applied with fingers, the consistency is slightly different and I can’t quite put my finger on it but I think it may be slightly matte in finish and is slightly creamier to the touch. The Colossal Go Extreme Mascara in Leather Black also gets a thumbs up from me, just as every other Maybelline mascara does. It’s thickening, volumising and gives that false lash effect which we all covet. The colour, again, is slightly matte and is very black.

Next to make it’s way into my mitts was the L’Oreal True Match Concealer from the well loved True Match range which claims to hold the perfect match for every skintone with – now, I don’t think this is possible however the shade 2 ‘Vanilla’ is a perfect match for me and it is a good concealer for both under eyes and for blemishes or redness.

Finally were two of Superdrug’s own brand ‘Naturally Radiant’ skincare items which were on a ‘better than half price’ offer, meaning I got the pair for less than six pounds. I picked up the Hot Cloth Cleanser – a creamy cleanser which comes with a muslin cloth, and the Glycolic Peel – a gel which you leave on over night which renews and refines the skins surface using Glycolic Acid and AHA’s. Both products have impressed me so far, the cleanser melts down makeup with ease and is easy to remove with the provided muslin cloth however if you had particularly sensitive skin i’d recommend a flannel which would be less abrasive.  The glycolic peel did exactly what it said and refined the texture of my skin meaning I woke up with plump, smooth skin without the dry, flaky patches that I had previously.

Overall, a successful trip to the drugstore resulting in lots of new loves and fantastic product in my collection.

What are your favourite drugstore items?
